It was just last week when we told you that it was rumored Verizon would not be carrying the BlackBerry Storm 9570 refresh. Now it seems that bbleaks has a source saying that RIM may have been the one who has pulled the plug. There are several different ways to speculate about this.
Here is what the bbleaks source had to say:
“Thank you for your hard work and diligence in preparing your application to support the upcoming hardware refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone (model number 9570, codename R027). Regrettably, RIM has decided not to pursue this device further and has ended the program.
However, rest assured that you will have the opportunity to leverage the work you’ve put in thus far in preparing for the new OS, as BlackBerry 6 will be making its way to more Verizon products in the near future, including the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 9330″
So, could this mean the end of the BlackBerry Storm product line? I myself really like my Storm2 9550, there has never been any problems with the device for myself other than the lack of software updates for it. I know when the first BlackBerry Storm came out there were several issues with it, mainly with the operating system. There are several people that I know who still use the original Storm and once OS 5 was rolled out it acted like a completely different device for them. So back to the question earlier, could this mean RIM is totally scrapping the Storm brand all together?
One option is going back to some rumors that were floating around awhile ago that RIM may still be working on a horizontal slider, but there has been no new information out about it for quite some time.
Another option could be that RIM has something else entirely up its sleeves for the BlackBerry Storm line. I myself would love to see a next generation Storm device featuring the QNX based operating system similar to what was shown on the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook.
What are your thoughts about the BlackBerry Storm line and its future?
